  • It's been a little more than a week.

I would like to type a little story here about.......

    CHINESE NEW YEARS EXTRAVAGANZA 2007!

It was a great success!!!  It brought so much joy and happiness!!  And equally it could bring so much pain..!  ohh the pain!!...

In the beginning there was great anticipaction for a large event, but 2 days before the scheduled event, due to non-interest and wishy washy responses from friends of all of us.  The night was going to be cancelled.

But the next day thankfully our friend Jess had more realiable friends of her own, and we were able to pull through our own core group we were able to bring the night back to life!

The evening started with a group Chinese dinner at 'Asian Legends'.  Mostly just us Taiwan trip peoples. The food was good, we ordered alot of dishes, didn't know if we could finish, 'cept Dustin called us all still growing boys, we'll find a way to manage.  Anyways, other than Chou, pouring soup from the spoon backwards and spilling the contents on the table rather than in the bowl like the fool he is...  We were pretty much the loudest most rowdy table in the restaurant.  Many a times did I look around us and people were giving us dirty glances and looks.  One too many crude jokes spoken out too loudly.  An inapporopriate word would travel a little bit further than it should around our table.  Yup.  I suppose that's us talking about old times again!

When dinner was over the real night had begun.  Karaokee at 'Twister'!  When I was in high school.  It used to be a small ghetto place in area considered the second Korea town in the city.  But when we went this time.  Man have they upgraded..  It was actually clean!  The rooms still had a bit of the old ghetto look to it.  But they had this whole new computerized song selection program.  It was teched up.

We started at around 9pm.  Started in the small room.  Me and Dustin were fully utilizing our falsetto voices.  Drinking Soju and beers all throughout.  I don't know how long we were in there for.  But it was getting warm and we requested a larger room.  So they gave it to us.  And then back with the song singing.

The funniest thing ever.  Pretty much the whole night it was Dustin, Chou and me just exchanging the mics with each other in varying combinations for different songs.  We were pretty much a trio of mic hogs.  Once in a while one of the others would get a song in.  But even then one of us would have a mic going at it.  People would be coming in and leaving all night.  Still us three fools would still be at it.  Dustin had a drunken, pass out, sleeping break in the middle but got back into things again.  By the end of it all with all the drinking and crazy singing and dancing.  I look at my watch.  It's 3am!!   We've just did Karaokee for 6 HOURS!!   With Chou, Dustin and me singing almost the whole way through.  Falsetto's, the screaming, the Sean Paul, everything.  My voice was shot.

When we got the bill, it was like a shot in the arm!  Oooohhh..... The damage was big.  Something like half a grand in total!     hahahaha!!....   Anyways.  no regrets.  had alot of fun.   I pretty much sang for most of the 6 hours.  Definitely got my money's worth.   Randy just kept on trying to see when Dustin would pass out.  He couldn't bear losing a second time to the lightweight.

  • Have you ever had a cough where you just start and whatever is tickling your throat just doesn't seem to go away and you keep on coughing and coughing and coughing, harder and harder, louder and louder....  until you can't breathe, your face goes red you feel like you're choking.

That's happenned to me today.  3 times!   Been sick since the weekend.  I try avoiding to talk during work these days.  Just speaking really bothers my throat.  They tell me to go home and rest.  Phsah!  They obviously don't know me very well!  Who's ever heard of taking a sick day, because you are acutally feeling sick?  I even hate going to the doctors.  Even though I could go everyday since the governement pays for it.  I just don't like it.  Only thing that stopped me so far from going to work for the past couple of years was a thrown out back.   I had no choice in that matter.  I couldn't stand up, let alone walk across my room.

Anyways, that coughing I had at work, it's a really horrible experience.  Especially the part where you feel like you can't breathe for a a short time.   I had to quickly walk to the bathroom to let those ones out.  People would've been scared.

So the lesson to learn here people!!   DON'T GET SICK LIKE ME!!

Actually I was hoping to type up something else, but that coughing thing, man, was it something.  Been like that for a coupe of days now.  Hopefully tommorow will be better.

Alright next entry will be the real one.

  • Been a while since I've posted anything here.

Just wanted to give awareness of a 2 part TV miniseries that is premiering Jan 7 and 8 called "Dragon Boys" on the CBC.

It revolves around 3 stories involving the asian crime underground in Vancouver.  A Western born Chinese cop trying to take down the senoir crimelords in Vancouver, an immigrant family and a young girl forced into prostitution.
Canadian made, filmed in Vancouver, takes place in Vancouver.  Might be interesting to asians from Vancouver.

Check out the website.  http://www.dragonboys.ca/    take a look at the trailer.

I don't think people give Canadians film a chance.  I've been watching alot this past month and I've been impressed as to how good alot of them are.  Most are in the Indie film style, where there aren't much special effects and explosions.  But the movies are actually plot driven and relys on good storytelling to get the point across.  Actually as for the TV movies that CBC produce.  They are usually done really well.  I can give some names out of a few that I personally like.

  • Several weeks ago, my cousin was married in a picturesque top floor reception hall in downtown Boston.  It was a very nice cermony and reception.  The entertainment was really enjoyable.

But for some reason, after it was all over I was lightly considered as the troublemaker.  I will just present the facts and you draw your own conclusions.

For the first time I met some 2nd cousin's of mine.  One of them and I were supposed to be the ushers.  Well just the way the place was set up and how the wedding party pictures were being taken.  Everything just seemed so informal.  As soon as people would walk through the doors, some friends or family members would immediately walk over chat and start getting pictures taken.  I felt it a bit rude to interrupt so basically us ushers didn't really do much ushering as we were supposed to be doing.  There was alot of confusion since there wasn't a real seating plan.  It was really informal about the seating arrangement.  No such things about groom or bride on which side.

My cousin and his wife were joking to me afterwards saying how great ushers we were.  But what exactly did we do?   errr.... I just said it was all part of my great plan to just let people in themselves and to seat themselves.  And DID it ever work!

During that night had a great time with the open bar and it was fun to see the whole family get into the wedding festivities.  It was fun to joke around with my usher accomplice 2nd cousin.  We were talking about how almost half of the people at the wedding were doctors.  The only engineers were us and one other person.  With so many doctors in the room how insignificant us little engineers were.  BUT, at least we have our iron rings.  It was all a bit of drunken talk. Turns out my 2nd cousin just graduated and was going to miss his iron ring ceremony because of this wedding trip.  But he told me he didn't care much about it.

Well, the next day everybody was suppose to have dim sum as a sort of last meal for all the attendees of the wedding.  My family arrived a bit early and sat down to wait for more people to come.  So in come my uncle and aunt.  They sit down at our table.  Usual intro talk and such.  I was just minding my own business.  Maybe taking a look at the food going by.  Then someone asks...  "where's Kenneth?"  "yeah.  where is my 2nd cousin usher?"  So then my aunt then lightly slaps my arm and says, "It's all your fault!"  I'm just all wide eyed with confusion!  "What did I do?!"   Apparantly the night before with our 5 minute conversation about iron rings triggered something in his head and he just wanted to desperately go the the ceremony.  The guy, started looking for tickets back to Cali as early as possible.  The only flight that was available was something like 4 in the morning.  Paid $400 bucks for tickets and took the flight out of town.  My aunt then said to me, "You're iron ring talk cost me $400!"  I was just astonished.  You know, mouth gapping, wide eyed still.  "I'm sorry?"  Man, if wanted an iron ring so bad I would have given him mine.  It only cost me like $20.  So my aunt and another 2nd cousin were both berating me.  It was like a one, two, girl, girl punch.  It didn't sound like they were angry though  More just teasing me.  It's a once in a lifetime kind of thing for the guy so it wasn't as bad.  But oh were they going at it.  My other 2nd cousin, she was saying how it was all my fault.  Why did I bring up the subject.  The guy was accepting the fact he was going to miss it.

Ah jeez..  then everybody started teasing me, "you're the troublemaker."  "first the usher thing and now this."

Hey!  I didn't do anything!  How do I get myself into these situations!   The good thing is that at least most of the people know me know.  If you can consider that a good thing.
